An exciting outdoor production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's The Sound of Music is taking place this summer in London, England. It is happening at the charming Open Air Theatre in Regent's Park from July 25th until September 7th 2013.
Charlotte Wakefield has been cast as Maria von Trapp with Michael Xavier as Captain von Trapp. Charlotte Wakefield has recently starred in the West End stage production of Mamma Mia while Michael Xavier starred in the musical, Love Story. What a great venue to see our favorite musical!

Charmian Carr, who played Liesl, the oldest von Trapp child in The Sound of Music movie, has run her own successful Interior Design business in California for many years, and perhaps her most famous client was Michael Jackson.
She has recently been commissioned by award-winning furniture making company Palacek, along with four other well-known Interior Designers, to design their ‘fantasy inspiration’ chair, and here is the result. It’s called ‘Hollywood’, and you can enter a draw for a chance to win one.

We're trying to find directions to the lovely alpine meadow above the Salzach Valley in Austria where the start of the song 'Do-re-mi' was filmed, with Hohenwerfen Fortress in the background. Has anyone been there, and found the spot? I went to Werfen with my family several years ago as part of our own Sound of Music Tour, but didn't succeed in finding the exact location. Take a look at these photos that we took at the recent Sound of Music Sing-a-Long-a at Nanaimo's Port Theatre, on Vancouver Island in Canada. There were nun costumes of all types, baronesses galore, gorgeous kids costumes, as well as some great ideas from members of the older generation. By the way, everyone had such a great time - there were some really wacky people in the audience! Congratulations to Nicholas Hammond on his 61st birthday on May 15th. We all know Nicholas of course as Friedrich, the oldest of the two von Trapp boys in The Sound of Music movie. I had the pleasure of meeting Charmian Carr on Friday in Friday Harbor. She is such a nice person, and it was great to have a chat with her, and to listen to some of her stories and memories. She is still so enthusiastic about her experiences playing Liesl in The Sound of Music movie. She signed my copies of the new Sound of Music Family Scrapbook and Forever Liesl, as well as my Sound of Music bag! The book is full of interesting stories and memorabilia from the kids who played the von Trapp children, and is really well put together. I can't put it down!

It has been a long and successful hike from the Austrian Alps to the Hollywood Hills for Christopher Plummer, who at the age of 82 years old, has eventually won his first Oscar for Best Supporting Actor in the film ‘Beginners’, making him the oldest actor to ever win an Oscar. The Canadian actor has for the first time, in 2012 won the most coveted and prestigious prize in the movie industry, by playing a widower, who after a long and happy marriage confesses to his son that he is gay. It was just two years ago when, for the first time, Plummer was nominated for an Oscar as Leo Tolstoy in ‘The Last Station’. Having the picture of Maria on this years Oscars poster must have been a good omen for Plummer. It looks like Julie Andrews is doing a celebratory twirl for him! The Sound of Music stage show is opening for the first time in Salzburg at the Salzburger Landestheater. It will be running from 23rd October 2011 until June 2012 with a possibility of an extension. The musical will be performed in German by Uwe Kroger as Captain von Trapp and Wietske van Tongeren as Maria. However for international visitors there are English subtitles.
We would love to hear from anyone who is fortunate enough to go and see this performance.
