For years I have admired and studied the costumes worn in the "Sound of Music" movie, and one of my favorites has always been the Baroness's gold gown which she wore for the party scene! So recently I designed the pattern for this gorgeous dress with the same fitted style, tucks in the bodice, back godet, and organza "pouf" that fans have loved for the last 46 years. While the pattern is rated for "intermediate" seamstresses, it is fairly simple to sew, as long as you properly fit it while you construct the gown. The "Baroness Schraeder" dress pattern is perfect for vintage parties, special occasions, and of course, Sound of Music sing-alongs! I love wearing it with a small tiara and long white gloves just like Eleanor Parker wore. You can see more pictures of it at http://www.edelweisspatterns.com/patterns.php

Baroness Schraeder had so much flair and style to her wardrobe. In fact, I can't really think of any outfit she wore that wasn't remarkably designed! She once claimed that she had the "finest couturiere' in all Vienna", but the real mastermind behind her magnificent wardrobe was the legendary Dorothy Jeakins.

Next time you have a "grand and glorious party" to attend, you just may want to sew this dress for an authentic "Baroness Schraeder" look. (To read more about the real-life Baroness Schraeder, visit our blog: http://www.edelweisspatterns.com/blog/?p=168

Auf weidersehen!
