Fiftieth Anniversary Celebrations

2015 recognizes The Sound of Music fiftieth anniversary of the movie release! It was first shown in New York on March 2nd 1965 and then hit screens at cinemas around the world shortly afterwards.

 There are many commemorative events planned and memorabilia to purchase for everyone to celebrate this golden fiftieth anniversary. Here is our Sound of Music Guide to what is happening in 2015:

Elisabeth von Trapp, granddaughter of Maria and Baron von Trapp, will be performing concerts on selected Uniworld Boutique River Cruises along the Danube in Austria. She will be greeting guests with a welcome reception concert and an 'Evening Sing-Along' onboard.

"2015 marks the half century legacy of the film that introduced the singing von Trapp family to fans around the world. Ms von Trapp has been singing professionally since childhood, captivating audiences with her joyfully expressive voice".

Salzburg is hosting a Sound of Music 50th Anniversary Festival from June 22nd to June 27th 2015 organized by Music Celebrations International. This includes a choral extravaganza in the beautiful Mozarteum, Salzburg along with Sound of Music tours visiting the famous movie locations.

Panorama Tours are arranging a Sound of Music Fiftieth Anniversary Gala Package from October 16th to 18th 2015 which offers hotel accommodation, a Sound of Music Tour and CD and a ticket to the Sound of Music Gala at the Felsenreitschule.

The Salzburg Marionette Theater will be holding a special exhibition from April 2015 explaining the history behind the Sound of Music marionette production. The exhibition will be open from 10am to 1pm. 

The Sound of Music opening night screening at the 2015 TCM Classic Film Festival on March 26th 2015 will be introduced by the legendary stars Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer. It will be held at the world famous TCL Chinese Theater IMAX in Hollywood.

The Sound of Music movie will be appearing at cinemas between April 19th to 22nd in more than 500 theaters across America to celebrate it's 50th Anniversary.

Twentieth Century Fox is releasing a five disc Ultimate Collectors Edition including a documentary called 'The Sound of a City: Julie Andrews Returns to Salzburg'.

The Sound of Music 50th Anniversary Edition CD's, Vinyl and MP3's will also be available.

Two new books that have recently been published are 'The Sound of Music Story' by Tom Santopietro and 'Sound of Music FAQ' by Barry Monush - must reads for the ardent Sound of Music fan.
